bazzil!

good to see you here at last and I see you're still trying to track down who did that track! LOL!

you know, I forgot to ask the one person I know, Jane Grigg, (who would most definitely have a fair idea cause I'm sure I heard it during one of her shows on ZZZ in the '80's) a couple of weeks back when I bumped into her at a gig. I was too excited about having seen Lovs é Blur do a surprise reunion set! and the song just didn't come to mind.

Its soooo annoying ... I can hear it clearly ... those casio drums and the manic vocals ... grrr

I don't suppose you would have a sample of sorts to listen to?

No I don't sadly enough.

I used to have it taped off the radio but I wouldn't have a clue where that's gone.

Looks like this one has stumped us all.

back in the day when i tried to find this out for bazzil - using the power of the blog - actually got as far as e-mail contact with some 4zzz workers but the trail went cold - perhaps another polite inquiry there may help?

I think it's lost in time this one.
It's just too bloody obscure man.
Although I do have an old mate of mine who has one of those record collections you'd have to get the floor reinforced to hold, I haven't asked him yet.

Does this mean anything to you Bazzil ....

Love Party (band)
From Wikipedia

Love Party was an Australian underground musical group that performed on the local band scene in Sydney and Newcastle from 1982 to 1984. Originally called the Leboyer Boys (after Frederick Leboyer), the band formed to create a birth-inducement cassette tape for their pregnant friend, Cath. The Mum Song was composed on a Suzuki omnichord in the lounge room of the band's meeting place at 60 Ridge Street, Surry Hills (in Sydney).

Members included Tyler Coppin, Miss Victoria Harbutt, Ian Spence, Paul Hester and Stephen Rae. Part time members included Jonathan Jones (The Rockmelons), Megan Donnolley and Peter Timmerman (Cheatin' Hearts), and the band also occasionally featured comedians such as Mark Little (Australian actor). Love Party's first performance was as a support for Do-Re-Mi (band) at Stranded nightclub (Sydney) in October 1982.

In 1984 John Duigan's Australian movie One Night Stand (Film) featured most of Love Party's members. Tyler Coppin played one of the leading roles, and the film also included an uncredited Paul Hester as "US Officer". In the same year, a demo tape of their song "Dance to Rhythm of Christ" was given extensive airplay on radio stations in Sydney and Brisbane. The band eventually broke up, its members pursuing separate interests in theatre, music, dance, and film. Love Party's drummer Paul Hester joined the band, Split Enz.

I can't say I've heard of them before (except for Paul Hester of course) nor seen any other info on them, so I'm not really sure it's the band you're thinking of.

Cheers

Hey motcher76,

It looks like you found it, there can't be another song with the same name, it was the early 80s.
A great bit of detective work.
A Sydney band..... well I'll be.

You can't get hold of a copy can you?

 ;D

Being a demo tape, and a pretty obscure one at that, I don't fancy your chances trying to track that one down. If the Wiki article is accurate, the band only existed for 2 years. One other line of info I found was that the band failed to secure a record deal which led to their demise ... I guess that would mean it highly unlikely any "official" recording of this track exists (e.g. a 7" pressing).

Perhaps a place to start would be to try and make contact with the author of that Wiki article, who obviously knows something of the band. I wouldn't know how you do that - I guess you'd have to be a registered Wiki user.

Good luck  ;D

Cheers

* EDIT* ... I also found some user entries on aus.music from two people (coincidentally also from Queensland  :o) trying to trace this Love Party track. One suggested it got played a fair bit on ZZZ around 1980/81, and the other included some extra lines from his/her memory:

          Nail in my hand,
          Nail in my hand,
          Nail in my hand,
I gotta a nail in my hand

Sounds like a pretty freaky track!

Mmm, that was me who initiated the aus.music news group request. Would luv to get hold of this! I had a 1/4" reel to reel tape with this on it but it was damaged when water got to it many, many years ago.

Someone must have it! Absolute classic.

Hello to anyone interested in this still. I have a recording of this song on Compact Cassette. I have many hours of 4ZZZ promos, interviews, Jo Bjelke send ups and some of their funny "subscribe" ads from 1977 to 1985. I also have material from their 10th birthday (1985i think). That song starts with "Go on take his guiding hand" and finishes with the spoken lines "so they turned to a socialistic idea so everybody had the same thing - and they all got the same thing - NOTHING!"  Please contact me via the forum for further info. I imagine ZZZ or someone may want to digitise or archive this matter. JK

Are you still in Brisbane JK?

I'd be happy to help you digitize any of this material, and make it available for download.

I for one am interested in this (almost) lost track.

My last email from JK was in Jan 2010, I've just emailed him again but the email address looks like a throwaway. Hopefully this can be done as I've much better equipment now.
