Johnnie Famechon - 4 August 2022
« on: Thu 04 Aug 2022 19:26:37 »
Just heard on the radio that Johnnie Famechon, the great featherweight boxer, had passed today aged 77.  One of my heroes growing up.  Sad news indeed.
Another day - another song.

:wow: what a time to follow Australian boxing with Johnny Famechon and Lionel Rose at the height of their careers.

Johnny Famechon was a boxer, not a fighter, with one of the best left jabs and evasions you'd ever want to seen. His partnership with trainer Ambrose Palmer was crucial to his success, as were the pale blue shorts he wore which were his father, Andre's... himself lightweight champion of France before emigrating to Australia.

Although he recovered physically, it was sad to see Fammo after he was hit by a car which caused brain damage and then suffering a stroke.
Who knows where the time goes (Sandy Denny)
