What is the most memorable gig you have ever been to?

Mine was seeing the Cruel Sea at the Metro. Tex had broken a leg I think, and couldn't play. Everyone was offered a refund, a few people left, after that it was the best night I have ever had.

Midnight Oil at the Palais Royale in Newcastle in the late 80's. I think they knocked the old girl down last week.

Australian - Angels, Perth Entertainment Centre, around 1985/6. Local Perth band V-Capri was the opening act.

International - Prince at Sydney Entertainment Centre. Bought the VIP tickets and got to sit in on the sound check which turned into a long set piece jam.

Jethro Tull at the Hordern Pavillion in the 70's was the best I've seen

Steve Miller and CSN in Detroit in the late 90's was just amazing....(especially since it only cost US$28)

AC/DC at the Bondi Lifesaver in the 70's was huge.....more fights that night than at the Sydney Stadium :o :o.....and it was the best I'd ever heard them.....

The Angels supporting Bowie in 1978 (?)....first time I'd seen the Angels and they kicked arse....enjoyed them more than Bowie...

Gary Glitter at Selinas in the 80's was a cack....he took the piss out of himself and it was just a great fun goodtime....

The Clash at Clouldland in Brisbane in 82.
What can I say :)

Sirocco at a little folk festival west of Toowoomba round early 90's,
their an amazing Australian world music band, but what made it
memorable was that this electrical storm caused a power failure
and they didn't miss a beat. It was in this old hall and because
it was on site camping there was plenty of torches round, so
they kept playing this middle eastern type percussion eventually
getting everyone into a circle and leading a dance.

The Saints last year at pig city.
The entire 8 hours was something else actually

The Apartments at the troubadour last june,
30 years since they last played in Brisbane.

The Go-Betweens perform at the October 2005 Multicultural Festival
held in the Roma Street Parklands, it was a free all ages event which
I got to take all my children to. It was the last time I would see them
play as Grant would die in may the next year.

The riptides 1st reformation gig for 4zzz's 10th anniversary,
that was a fantastic night

And Patti Smith at the big day out  on the gold coast, January 19, 1997
the first time she had ever played in Australia and I was right up the front
I'd waited years for that one

ciao bob

you lucky bugger!

lots of memorable shows that put the tingles up the spine just thinking about them again ... just a few off the top ...

WIRE at The Zoo ( I waited years for that one ;)
Bowie - Reality Tour - that entrance to "Rebel Rebel" still makes me all goosey gander ;)
Leonard Cohen - QPAC - some years back - masterful
Bette Midler  - Festival Hall - back in the 70's - front row centre what a show and I was one very excitable young boy!
The Saints @ Pig City - natch
Liza Minnelli - Festival Hall - back in the 70's - no one does Liza like Liza - wham bam thank you ma'am!
The Stranglers - the legendary first and second Queens Hotel gigs in Brissy - V2 (Peter McGrath deserved all he got!)
The Ramones - Festival Hall - Brissy - just mad ... just maaaaad :) :)

Theres a couple of concerts I was at too and a couple I'm jealous of

Bowie - Reality Tour

I'd have to say that was an unbelievable  gig,
much  better than the serious moonlight or glass spiders tours which were very good already
I was too young for the first time he toured in 78,
but thats my fav bowie period and I have a few boots that tell me it would have been special

Leonard Cohen - QPAC - some years back - masterful

He's at the top of the list of artists I'd like to see, but being 70 odd now it most likely won't happen

The Saints @ Pig City - natch

of course

The Stranglers - the legendary first and second Queens Hotel gigs in Brissy - V2 (Peter McGrath deserved all he got!)

I've a friend who was there its legendary alright, very  jealous of this gig,
mind you I still met people who rave about the clash at cloudland
which has entered the legendary.
So was this peter the guy who copped the bass guitar?

The Ramones - Festival Hall - Brissy - just mad ... just maaaaad Smiley Smiley

I was there too, fantastic "1234"

And the sex pistols reunion at festival hall,
now that was fantastic

yup ... Peter McGrath aka V2 was a well known around the scene as a tag along obnoxious little snot fashionista who went to Sandgate High the same time I was there ... but a couple of grades lower

I missed The Clash gig but from all reports, you're right mate ... it sounded legendary

aww bob ... surely it couldn't have been as good as the surprise Lovs é Blur reunion at The Alley Bar last November!  ;D 8) ;D

The Ramones also at the Enmore theatre, I was sitting at the front of the upstairs stalls and was off my dial. They were so brutal and bright I felt like a wallaby in front of a Mack truck.
That is the funniest thing I've heard for ages, the "a wallaby in front of a Mack truck"
bit. You have to tell us how you got stuck near the Antarctic when pig city was on,
that sounds like a good story

So you were in Tasmania  :), the closest I got to Antarctica
was right down the southern end
of Argentina, maybe a 1000kms away.
Bloody Cold.
So no good gigs in Tassie?  Sounds like a bit sad for bands
down there. I heard of people traveling from all over Australia
to see the pig city gig, the furtherest I traveled to see a
gig was Brisbane to Lismore, to see Kev Carmody play
in an old church and because hardly anyone was there I got to
chat with him later.
Maybe we could start a "whats the furtherest you've travelled to see
someone play" post.

The Church's 2 gigs at the Tivoli in Sydney for the "Contact the Living' Tour. Support bands were the Cuckoos (still got their EP) and The Crystral Set. The shows were magic.

I saw the Church in Toronto back in 1990 during the Gold Afternoon Fix tour.  It was a pretty good show, tight band, good sound.  But before the show started this guy came up to us, leaned over the seats in the row just in front of us, got right in our faces more or less, and asked if we'd ever heard of the Blue Aeroplanes (the opening band).  My friend said he'd heard a couple of songs.  I had an album of theirs and I told the guy they were "alright, I guess".  Ten minutes later, they come on and here's that guy dancing around like a loon.  Later on I went home, did a little checking and found out he was their interpretive dancer.  He even got credited on albums as "dancer".  I gotta admit, it takes a lot of nerve to do it, but still, he looked pretty ridiculous.

During the break between them and the Church, I ran into Kim-Clarke Champniss, a VJ from Muchmusic (Canadian music channel) -- try to picture an 80s version of Dominic Monaghan from LOTR and LOST, only more nasal -- who reported that he was "pleasantly surprised".

An enjoyable night for all.

yes Donlau this concert is now available on DVD -'Experience Hendrix'
this certainly is a great show but the powers that be have only included stereo audio-
would have been awsome in DTS

The Church at the Shenton Park Hotel, so loud ceiling strips were falling down.

Funny thing was it was the first gig after they introduced the sound level meter!!!

Most memorable was a a show at the university in campbelltown, nsw. The Angels, Screaming Jets, Mental as Anything.
Its memorable because I won the tickets that day, I got drunk, stoned,  had a awesome punch on on the hill with a couple of goobers and didnt get kicked out, I had a chauffuer to drive my car around and i wouldnt let him drink even though it was his birthday. Plus i met one of the hottest sheila's i'd ever seen and took advantage of me later that night  ;D
Plus it just rocked.
and also just about anything i have been to at the horden, i love that place for some reason.
